A Walk In Southern Ridges Singapore

Do you like outdoor activities? Do you enjoy walking while taking in the beautiful greenery and morning fresh air? Thinking of trying to lose weight but do not know where to start? Finding ideas for a weekend family outing in Singapore but do not know where to go?

If your answer is yes, then my suggestion is the Southern Ridges Singapore.

A seamless expanse of green open spaces, the Southern Ridges is a 10-km trail that offers a unique outdoor experience in the southwest of Singapore. From the many architecturally striking bridges and walkways, trekkers can enjoy a panoramic view of the verdant greenery in the three parks and one nature reserve that make up the Southern Ridges – the lush hilly parks of Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill and Kent Ridge, and the rich flora and fauna of Labrador Nature Reserve.

For the beginners like me, I would not have done the whole 10km trail. So my suggested route is Hort Park – Alexandra Arch – The Singing Forest – Forest Walk and return to Hort Park. That gives you about 2.8km and less than 1 hour to complete the route. But you are welcome to take the challenge of completing the whole 10km trail.

There are some tours organised for part of the walking trail so if you are interested, you can sign up for the tour.

During our walk, we could see groups of trekkers following the guides, families with the children and the elderly, youngsters with groups of friends walking, talking and taking photos of surroundings. Some even brought along scooters and strollers to accommodate the kids.

In addition, if you are lucky, you get to see different species of birds during the walk. Lucky or unlucky for us, we only manage to see squirrels and butterflies.

The route I have suggested, where we started from Hort Park to Forest Walk is an uphill trail, so you might get a bit breathless if you are not fit enough (like me, most of the time eating a trail of dust left by my kids and my husband). But the return route is going downhill and it should be fairly easy.

Usually my kids are very home-bound, meaning they love staying at home. But whenever we suggested to go for Southern Ridges walk, they would be happy to leave the house.

  • Tips : bring along water bottle, towel and mosquito repellent. If you love to take photos, bring along your camera. If you have toddlers or kids who do not like walking, you can bring along scooters and strollers too. No admission fee.

I leave you with some photos of this amazing trail. Note that the photos were taken on different days because we only manage to walk a short route each time we were there.
